about Clemson Sailing Club

Clemson sailing is an entirely student run organization that is both a recreational club and a competitive racing team. Our dock is located next to the campus beach on Lake Hartwell. All sailors are welcome to join regardless of experience level! Club members are invited to participate in our tailgates, Learn to Sail/Race classes, social events, race team practices, and local or traveling regattas. ‘Fridays at Four’ is a great opportunity for all skill levels to head to the club to grill out, swim, and take a boat out.

The race team is a part of the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SAISA) and competes against both varsity and club teams from other schools. In recent years, race team members have traveled anywhere from Miami to Annapolis for regattas. Travel costs are covered in membership fees. We are a group of students with a common interest in sailing, coming from all levels of experience. We offer a variety of activities, including sailing lessons for those who have never been on a boat before, a competitive club racing team, and a range of social events. The club is open to all students at Clemson University!

Proper Club Etiquette

Clean up all trash and food after yourselves
Make sure sail sheds are locked when you leave the premises
Do not start fires at the club
No events are allowed without club permission
Be mindful of others and respectful to everyone on the lake
Always bring a life jacket for everyone on the boat
Do not sail under the influence
Check the weather before sailing- know your limits
Make sure the boats are tied up and derigged properly when done
Do not give out or make copies of your sail shed keys
Dogs are allowed - make sure they are supervised
Report injuries/damage to an officer immediately
Dress appropriately for the weather
Report any suspicious behavior

A few weekends ago, our keelboat team had the opportunity to compete at Charleston Race Week, the largest and most competitive keelboat regatta in the country.
